Why One Penny Red?

Our name is a tribute to the building.

The Penny Red was a British postage stamp issued in 1841 and created to replace the Penny Black as the cancellation mark was not easily visible on the Penny Black.

Millions of Penny Reds were printed. The era of the Penny Red came to its close at the end of 1879 when the contract to print the Penny Red formally ended.
